Chain Locks are installed
on the doors of apartments, homes, hotel rooms, etc. for better interior
safety. Chain lock prevents forcible entry into a room by intruders.
These locks usually have keeper fixed to the interior of the door frame
by means of two small screws and a chain anchor of the same type is
fixed to the inner side of the door. This type of chains help to
partially open a door and see the person outside the door.
Materials used in Chain Locks
Chain locks are mostly made of materials like:
Types
of Chain Lock
- Basic chain lock unit: The unit is installed on the
interior of the door as well as an interior wall. These lock unit
are ideal for the security of residential apartments. Rather than
fully opening the main doorway of the house, the lockset allows
people inside to open the door partially when strangers knock. Basic
chain lock units work well with metal and wooden doors.
- Chained Door Guard with Bolt Lock: This type of lock is a
combination of chain lock and dead bolt lock. In this type, a metal
bolt slides into the chain which not only chains the door, but also
dead bolt it as well. This type of lock is mostly tamper-proof and
provide a maximum lock protection for both wooden or metal doors.
- Chain Lock with Alarm: This type of lock prevent the door
from opening directly. At the same time, it sounds an alarm to alert
the owner about an attempt by an unauthorized individual to open the
door.
- Keyed Chain Lock Units & Guards: This unit locks the
door from the inside or outside with a key, offering additional
security when you are at home or away from home. The keyed chain
lock units are most suitable for wooden, metal and fiberglass doors.
Chain locks are not as strong as other door locks. Hence they are
not suggested for primary security device. However, a combination of
chain lock with deadbolt lock is recommended to be the best means of
securing the exterior doors.
