Introduction
Door stops are very important as they help to hold a door open or
closed. They are usually mounted on the baseboard of the door and also
prevent doors from opening too widely. Door stops usually have springs
attached to them which helps them hold the door in position.

Door
stops are usually of two types performing different functions. One holds
a door open (or stops it from closing), and the other stops the door
from hitting a wall. Doorstops that prevent the door from hitting a wall
can be put on the door, or on the wall, or on the floor in front of the
wall.
In some cases, door stops are fitted at the midpoint of the door, as
part of the central door-hinge. Such a stop is known as a "hinge
pin".
Materials
Used
Door stops are usually fabricated from a single flexible band of sheet
metal. Some of the commonly used materials are:
Finishes
Finishes on the door stops not only enhance their looks but also give
them extra protection. The finishes in which these door stops are
available are:
- Polished Brass
- Satin Chrome
- Antique Brass
- Antique Nickel

These decorative door stops are usually available in satin
nickel, antique bronze, satin brass and antique nickel finishes. Usually
the bottom of the door stop are covered with a rubber strap so that they
do not cause any damage to the floor.
The metal used to make a door stop is symmetrical about a transverse
center line and consists of an arc shaped central portion and two end
portions. There is a friction material on the underside of the door
stop. The door stops can be used from either direction of the door and
provides a uniform force on the door, thus preventing movement of the
door relative to the stop in either direction.
