Types of Door Knobs

Dummy Door Knobs
Dummy door knobs are basically single knobs that are mounted through the back of the door with single screws. The dummy sets are fixed knobs that do not turn and are most popular on French-style closet doors or the inactive door of a set of double doors, that possibly enters the master suite. They are also suitable for use with ball catch doors or other applications where a latch mechanism is not needed, but the look of a door knob is desired.
Dummy Door Knobs

Door knobs are usually installed both on the interior as well as the exterior surface of the door. A door knobset usually consists of three parts: the latch that slides into the door and the two knobs for either side of the door.

Dummy door knobs can also be installed on doors where the latch is located somewhere else on the door besides the door knob. For instance, an outside door or gate may have a latch somewhere else on the door, but have a dummy door knob to enhance its look.

Materials Used

Mostly strong and durable metals are used for making dummy door knobs. Some of the common materials used include:
  • Stainless Steel
  • Brass
  • Aluminium
  • Cast Iron
  • Porcelain
  • Ceramic
Style & Finish

Dummy door knobs are available in a wide variety of styles and finishes. They are usually used only for decoration or applications that do not need a latch. These door knobs are mostly round or oval in shape. Excellent finishes are given to dummy door knobs that enhance the beauty of your door. Antique bronze, antique nickel, polished chrome, antique black coated and satin nickel finishes are very common among dummy door knobs.
